Some Haiku

blue ocean draws me

into the vast forever

and back into Now.

__________________________________________

the collection grew

I thought I had it all but

of course it vanished

_________________________________________

gray-blue clouds thicken

I can feel the rain coming

in my bones, my hair

___________________________________________

when healing means wait

the pain becomes important

I can’t feel my heart

____________________________________________

Unveil the hidden sins

still covered by rustling skirts

and the compline bell.

____________________________________________

the night terrors come

an unrelenting drumming

I still wake up tired

_____________________________________________

wear purple, Nana

so I’ll know it’s you, really you

come to walk me home.

_____________________________________________

he always comes back

as sure as a fresh migraine

to chip me away.

_____________________________________________

My womb is empty

If you think I’ve forgotten

I’ll show you my tears

__________________________________________________

The Angel asked Mary

and she right away said Yes.

I would have said Wait.

___________________________________________________

No one can make me

into someone else – maiden

meant to bite her tongue

______________________________________________________

my cup was so full

that it slipped from my fingers

never shared, it cracked

________________________________________________________

recycling papers

may sweep the goodly green earth

but spoken words stand

_______________________________________________________

when we ate the fruit

apples were not the problem

we just wanted More

_________________________________________________________

take away the kids

but the mother and child live

within a locked heart

_________________________________________________________

peace is elusive

but sharing a loaf of bread

is something you can chew on

__________________________________________________________

crystalline raindrops

are not welcome here in the

icy winter night

_________________________________________________________

fistful of flowers

big smile, fresh dandelions,

a toddler’s first gift

__________________________________________________

too tired to sleep but

I search for a silver coin

well into the night

_______________________________________________________

truth happiness peace

were there all along but i

was not awake yet.

________________________________________________________

the journey is the end

the end of the journey comes

when you stop searching

_________________________________________________________

don’t peel that onion

my story has layers you

have no right to probe.

  1. These are lovely. You’ve inspired me to want to write some myself. 🙂

Cynthia …. why not …. it’s funny how concentrating on the syllables and doing something lovely like looking out the window can result
in some very nice poetry. Thanks. Mary Ellen
